How I almost missed Addie and Barkas’ new series of Online Shibari Classes

If you knew me, you’d know that I’m not the kind of guy to be spending money on in-game stuff: from DLCs and cosmetics to in game currency. But then I got into my first gacha game, Genshin Impact, and the temptation reared it’s adorably cute pyromaniac head.

So early this morning, I was super tempted to spend on Genshin Impact. It’s my first time so I figured it was safe to splurge a bit, right? Especially for something that helped distract me from stress during quarantines?

Thankfully, I put my phone down and told myself no. It didn’t feel right.

I hear a beep and Twitter tells me there’s a tweet by Barkas sharing the new online shibari classes that they will be releasing with Karada House. (Addie and Barkas are a delightfully geeky rope educator duo from Vancouver whose approach to tying and education I like a lot).

This was a big deal.

I’d attended some of their workshops before (via Karada House and B.A.N.K.) and had a great time. On top of being great rope practitioners, Addie and Barkas also happen to be really fun teachers, too.

So from the basics of their “Interview Metaphor” for rope bondage to Addie’s “Tech Dump” for suspensions for different people and body types—I had more than a handful of classes I wanted to attend in total.

I had Google convert the total Euro price to USD and it turns out that (thanks to some generously discounted ticket rates) I could enroll in all of the ones I wanted for around the same amount I was considering chucking into Mihoyo/Genshin Impact’s pockets.

What a crazy random happenstance.

So I invested! And I’m really glad I didn’t rush into the impulse buy for Genshin’s game currency. xD

Learning more about how to play better, safer, and more enjoyably with my partner feels like a better investment, and I can’t wait to bring what I’ll learn to the next time I tie with friends and loved ones once the quarantines have ended and it’s safe for us all to enjoy each other’s physical company again. 🙂

If you’d like to be classmates with me during these events, you can grab tickets from Karada House online or apply for Addie and Barkas’ FULL scholarship for rope education!

The scholarships are available to members of the LGBTQIA+ or BiPoC community (that’s 11 classes plus tickets to the QueerRope 2021).
