Physical risks aren’t the only things we watch out for when we engage in kink. Given how stigmatized BDSM practices are, it’s also important for us to factor in the various issues that can ruin people’s lives if they are discovered to be practicing kink.
People can lose their jobs, be shunned from their social circles, or—in some of the worse situations—even physically hurt for being different. That’s why pseudonyms are important!
Hopefully, we’ll make greater strides into making our art form and kink practices more accepted throughout the Philippines. We’ll get there. But for now, we play it safe and let people come out of the closet in their own time and when they’re ready.
