Introduction to Kanna-ryū with AGKT

Hosted by Manila Rope & Shibari.ph

Overview
This is a 2.5-hour introduction class for people of all levels, including complete beginners. There is no prerequisite. We will explore basic floorwork ties and discover a couple of Nawashi Kanna’s signature ties with an official instructor of the style.

Scope
In this class, we will review basic ideas in semenawa and Kanna-style. Nawashi Kanna is a leading Japanese rope artist. As a successor of Akechi Denki , they have developed a semenawa style (beauty in torment) which draws inspiration from Hojojutsu.

About Kanna-ryū
Kanna’s style is restrictive, includes complete control of the body and often plays with the breath.

Kanna and their partner Kagura declare: “We believe that rope has no gender or borders, and rope should be for everyone, and could be fun for both the rigger and the model.”

As one of the principles of Kanna-ryū is adapting to any body, alternatives and extra options will be provided if necessary.

Important Notes
Please note that the ties could include elements such as choking, neck rope, crotch rope and some level of objectification.

You need a partner for this class, switching is not allowed. Bring at least six (6) natural fiber ropes, preference is for jute or hemp rope. Suggested length is 8 meters and 6mm diameter.

This event is hosted by Manila Rope in partnership with Shibari.ph!

About the Instructor

Who will be teaching the workshop?

aguacate/mango (he/him) is originally from Europe but currently resides in Canada. Starting his rope journey in 2015 as a rigger, he enjoys challenging and tormenting ropes, the art of semenawa. His main interest lies in simple ties and in the classics of kinbaku. He equally enjoys exploring floorwork and suspensions as they allow a vast array of play possibilities.

In 2022, Nawashi Kanna, one of Japan’s leading and most influential rope artists and teachers, named him an official instructor of her style. He has performed and shared his knowledge about rope in half a dozen countries across the world and closer to home. He is a co-founder of CORE, a successful rope education collective in Ottawa.

Frequently Asked Questions

The final details have been sent to all the confirmed participants. Please check your emails!

Yes. You will need to attend as a pair to participate in this class.

If you need help finding a partner to attend with you, kindly email Dee so we can assist you ([email protected]).

Sports, yoga, and exercise attire are common favorites since they’re not baggy and won’t get caught so often. Bras with underwires however are specifically discouraged since chest-related bondage might make it harder to breathe, deform the underwire, or accidentally poke/stab you.

Attendees will need to stay clothed and masked during this event to comply with the safety guidelines for preventing COVID-19 infection.

CLOTHES: If you reckon you’ll perspire a lot, bring small towels and a change of clothes.

ROPE: At least six (6) pieces of 8m long bondage rope. Jute is recommended. If you have none yet, you may buy rope from our online shop.

EMT/SAFETY SHEARS: We use a special kind of scissors for bondage—the kind used by paramedics for emergency situations which have a blunt tip. We’ll have several shears available during the event but you are encouraged to get your own pair.

MEDICATION: Please remember to bring medication if you need any— especially for emergencies (asthma inhalers, insulin, etc.).

You can browse our selection of natural fiber ropes (jute ropes/asanawa) and synthetic fiber ropes (polypropylene ropes) in our online store.

Attendees of Shibari.ph events tend to be comfortable enough to use their real names. However, we highly encourage the use of code names and aliases during the events so that you have a layer of defense against people who might have malicious intentions.

Note: Anyone caught harassing other attendees for personal details will be reprimanded or sent out. Repeat offenders will be blacklisted from future events and reported to the other local kink groups.

Photographs are only allowed during our events if all attendees who will be part of the shot are consenting. We may dedicate a photo-safe zone where photo-taking is allowed.

No worries! Accidents, emergencies, and changed minds happen. Cancellations are free until seven (7) days before the scheduled event. After that period, we will need to bill you 75% of the scheduled appointment’s fee as a cancellation fee. If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at [email protected]
